Field Notes is an independent travel publication. This notice explains what happens to data when you visit fieldnotes.life. The short version: we don't ask you for anything, and we don't track you.

Who we are

This site is operated by fieldnotes.life. You can reach us at caitlin@fieldnotes.life.

What we collect

We do not collect personal information from visitors. There are currently no sign-up forms, accounts, comments, or payments on this site. We do not ask for your name or email address, and we have no way to identify you.

Analytics

We use our publishing platform's built-in web analytics to understand which guides are being read. It is first-party and cookie-free: it does not use cookies or any other persistent browser storage to identify you across sessions, browsers, or devices, and unique visitors are counted only within 24-hour windows. This data is not shared with third parties, and it is not used to build a profile of you.

Cookies

This site does not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies.

Server logs

Like virtually all websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information when a page is requested, including IP address, browser type, and the page requested. These logs exist to keep the site running securely and are retained for a short period by our host. We do not use them to identify individual readers.

Who else is involved

Our site is hosted and published using Ghost, which acts as our service provider and processes the technical data described above on our behalf. Fonts, images, and all other page assets are served from our own domain, so loading a page on this site does not send your data to any advertising network or third-party font, script, or tracking provider.

External links

Our guides link to third-party websites such as national parks, reservation systems, and tourism boards. Once you follow a link, that site's own privacy practices apply. We have no control over them and receive nothing back from them about you.

Your rights

Because we do not collect personal information that identifies you, there is generally nothing for us to access, correct, or delete. If you believe we hold data about you, or if you have a question about this notice, email caitlin@fieldnotes.life and we will respond. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes to this notice

This notice will be expanded when we add features that collect personal data, such as newsletter sign-ups, member accounts, or comments. We will update this page and the date above before any such feature goes live.
